Kicking off the August HK Film - is Ann Hui's Boat People.
This film attempts to document the essence of a post-war Vietnam through the eyes of a Japanese photojournalist.
Filled with understated contrasts, the film "vaulted Hui to a new level of commercial and critical attention even as it spurred controversy in all directions"

Secondly, 2046 by Wong Kar-wai. A companion piece to In The Mood For Love, that see's Chow make a return, this time as a heartbreaker himself. With an unusual mix of past and present, as well as beautiful visuals and a painful melancholic tone - this film depicts the dizzying hope as you yearn for a past that is lost. Join us on board the train that takes you to the year 2046 to reclaim your memories.

Lastly for October, we have Infernal Affairs (Wai-keung + Mak). Old-fashioned noir mixed with some good old espionage, Infernal Affairs sees an undercover cop spend years attempting to infiltrate HKs most notorious gang, as well as simultaneously watching a young member of the same mafia gang go undercover in the police force. This film truly highlights the internal conflict and depth to the characters. (The original film that Martin Scorsese's 'The Departed' was a remake of)
